In 1853 Wisconsin became the first state in the union to abolish the death penalty. This November, the question of reinstating the death penalty will be put on the ballot. No Death Penalty Wisconsin urges you to vote "No" on this referendum and keep our tradition of abolishment alive. No Death Penalty Wisconsin is coalition that has formed to defeat this referendum because the death penalty is inhumane, racially biased, not an effective deterrent to crime, more costly than life imprisonment, and even with DNA testing there is still a risk of killing innocent people.
No Death Penalty Wisconsin is a 501(c)4 referendum campaign. Under Wisconsin state campaign finance law, no restrictions apply to the amount a
donor can give to help defeat the death penalty referendum.
Donations are
not subject to the limitations on political candidates and any organization, corporation, union, religious institution and U.S. citizen can donate to the campaign.
No Death Penalty Wisconsin consists of representatives from organizations as diverse as the Wisconsin Coalition Against the Death Penalty, American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Wisconsin Council of Churches, Amnesty International, Peace Action of Wisconsin, and the AFL-CIO labor union.
Our purpose is to educate Wisconsin citizens to cast an intelligent vote against the death penalty referendum, which is scheduled for the general election ballot on November 7, 2006.
No Death Penalty Wisconsin is seeking to broaden its coalition. If you or your organization would like to offer your support, please see the TAKE ACTION link on this website.
